Normative definition

Infrastructure enabling suppliers and products to reach markets they do not serve directly, or serve only to a limited extent, because local payment, logistics, customs, fulfillment, compliance, or customer-service infrastructure is absent. It must not be used to frame circumvention of legal, contractual, regulatory, geographic, or commercial restrictions.

— Canonical Specification v1.1, §10.2

From the canonical source

For an upstream seller, PRISM may provide access to an otherwise underserved market without requiring that seller to build its own local acquiring, local payment methods, currency handling, cross-border logistics, customs processes, local fulfillment, returns infrastructure, or customer support. An external retailer or supplier does not automatically become a PRISM partner; the actual commercial relationship must be established separately.

— Canonical Specification v1.1, §6.4

Scope and boundaries

  • PRISM Commerce is market-access infrastructure and must not be positioned as a mechanism for circumventing seller, geographic, regulatory, contractual or commercial restrictions. (Frozen Terminology Registry, Market Access Enablement — Mandatory normative boundary)
  • If delivery of a product is prohibited by law, contract, or another mandatory restriction, PRISM is not a means of bypassing that restriction. (Frozen Terminology Registry, Market Access Enablement)
